Jerusalem Cross Ring
In 1817 Anthimos Gazis, a greek scholar, joined the Filiki Eteria (secret society of friends) recruiting and leading the Greek insurgents in Magnesia. The flag was hoisted by Gazis in “Milies” on Mount Pelion on May 7th 1821. The white flag bears five red crosses and is known as the “Jerusalem Cross” that symbolizes Christ and the Four Quarters of the World.
